Write a list of topics you might like to focus on in your research. You can only put so many words about HIV into your brochure, so the narrower your focus, the better you can cover the subject. Decide on only one or two elements to include in your brochure.
Read the data on the HIV topic you have chosen thoroughly. Consult various sources, including the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the Kaiser Family Foundation's Global Health HIV/AIDS Overview websites. These are just two of dozens of websites on the topic of HIV, so be sure to check other sources as well.
Write a draft of information you want to include in your brochure. Include bullet points and summaries of information as well as resources that point the reader to more in-depth coverage of the topic.
Use a brochure template to help you organize your information in a word processor or desktop publisher. Templates will help you lay out your brochure more easily without having to create one on your own. Avoid including too much information that will overcrowd your brochure.
Use a readable font and text color. Use at least size 11 or 12 font. Choose fonts without any embellishments, such as Arial or Times New Roman. Use dark colors such as navy blue, black, or a dark maroon. Stay away from yellow and pale colors in your text. Background colors should facilitate the reading of your text, not detract from it. For example, a lime green background and dark pink font is not easily readable. Ask a friend for his opinion on your color combinations before you create your brochure.
Include photographs that are appropriate for your classroom. Stay away from overly graphic images, unless your teacher has given permission for you to use them. Remember the audience for whom the brochure is intended and whether your pictures will serve your purpose of transmitting the information in your brochure well or if they will detract from it.
Proofread your brochure carefully. Brochures are meant to be distributed to the public, so make sure your information is typo- and error-free.
