Jersey Shore Colleges

If you're interested in attending college in New Jersey, the area known as the Jersey Shore offers a number of options. From the northeastern point of Sandy Hook--a peninsula formation--to the southern area of Stone Harbor, the shore encompasses many of the locales in between. Thirteen primary cities comprise the Jersey Shore, providing potential visitors, and people seeking higher education in this region, an array of choices.
  1. Monmouth University

    • Monmouth University, established as a junior college in 1933, received four-year college status in 1956 and university distinction in 1995. Students partake in any of the university's undergraduate and graduate options, as well as certificate-level programs. The university lies fewer than 10 minutes from the shore, providing students instant access to a variety of entertainment options. Monmouth's sailing team offers one water-based participatory sport, as it supplies five sailboats for team members to use. The university is a member of MAISA, the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association, which allows students to compete with more than 40 Canadian and American East Coast/mid-Atlantic schools.

    Atlantic Cape Community College

    • Atlantic Cape Community College's Atlantic City location offers students the option of studying at one of the shore's prime locations. The area, known for its nightlife, restaurants and casinos, provides year-round tourist appeal. ACCC-Atlantic City, established in 1966, allows students to pursue many associate's degree options. The Associate of Arts, Associate of Applied Science and Associate of Science programs offer accounting, business administration, history and criminal justice. The college also operates the Casino Career Institute, providing students with options in the gaming industry. The college houses campuses in Cape May Court House and May's Landing, New Jersey.

    Ocean County College

    • Ocean County College, located 15 minutes from the shore, provides two-year college choices. Located within eight miles of Seaside Heights, a shore-based tourist haven, the college houses more than 10,000 students seeking a number of associate's degree options. Computer science, business administration, engineering and nursing are among the programs offered. OCC also offers a reduced-cost study option for senior citizens. Students also study at Manahawkin, as well as various high school satellite locations.

    Brookdale Community College

    • Brookdale Community College, known as Brookdale, the County College of Monmouth, rests 25 minutes from the shore. Established in 1967, the college provides associate's degree choices, including an Associate of Fine Arts degree. The AFA option allows students to pursue the studio art program, with required courses in drawing, color theory and 3-D design. Other course options include jewelry, painting and ceramics, all on multiple levels. Five New Jersey universities, in partnership with BCC, allow for the completion of bachelor's and master's degrees. The college also houses a location at Western Monmouth.
