The Certificate IV in Cardiac Technology is offered through distance education for cardiac technologists in Australia. The program generally requires eight months for completion in full time studies, but can be completed on a full or part-time basis.
The certificate program comprises 14 study units. Courses in the program teach students to perform stress testing, holter monitoring and electrocardiography. Students learn about first-aid measures, infection control policies used in health care facilities and how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Students must complete supervised procedures in the workplace, and when the program is completed through distance education, keep a record of all activities performed.
Prospective students must possess a Victorian Certificate of Education or equivalent and must currently be working as a cardiac technologist. Furthermore, the applicant's employer must support the student's pursuit of the Certificate IV because practical experience is acquired in the workplace.
