The HCC Basic Peace Officer Certificate is taught over 688 hours of instruction. The training is split into level I and II training with Basic Peace Officer I, II, III and IV courses and a course in physical fitness for law enforcement agencies.
In order to take part in the HCC Peace Officer Certification course, candidates must provide proof of obtaining a high school diploma or GED and provide proof of their ability to read and write at college level. Candidates must complete medical and psychological exams and hold a Texas driver's license.
Physical requirements for entry to the Peace Officer training course include the ability to complete a 1.5 mile run, perform push-ups and sit ups and complete an obstacle course. The cost of the course in 2010 is approximately $2,000 according to the HCC Police Academy.
