Online Peace Officer Training

Crime rates dropped in California between 1983 and 2009, according to the California Department of Justice. Peace officers play a large part in maintaining this positive trend in many states, but they must be properly trained to do their job efficiently. Several online programs offer peace-officer training.
  1. Availability

    • There are many venues available for online officer training. Accredited online colleges and universities such as Tuscon College, the American InterContinental University Online and the University of Phoenix issue certificates and degrees in Criminal Justice.

    Jobs

    • Candidates who use online officer training for initial or ongoing education hold jobs in many different fields. Online training can help a student obtain or advance a career as a police officer, security guard, sheriff, customs officer or parole officer.

    State Programs and Requirements

    • Only a few states, such as Utah, have integrated online peace-officer training into their state programs. Other states, such as Ohio, only offer onsite training. Regardless of the program used, the Peace Officer Standards and Training must be met, which can require onsite training, and the candidate must pass background checks with no convictions.
