Consequences of Academic Cheating

Students are often under so much pressure to do well in school that they become desperate, and will do whatever it takes to get the grades they need. Academic cheating includes cheating on exams as well as plagiarizing. There are usually serious consequences involved with cheating.
  1. A Reprimand

    • If a student is lucky, academic cheating will result in a reprimand. The student is spoken to about what he has done and is given warning to never let it happen again.

    Failing Grade

    • If caught cheating, an instructor may choose to simply fail the student for the course, regardless of what her previous grades have been.

    Academic Probation

    • If caught cheating, the student may be placed on academic probation. This means that the student is under very careful watch. If caught engaging in dishonest or unsatisfactory behavior again, he will not get any more chances and will be asked to leave the school immediately.

    Suspension

    • If cheating results in a suspension, the student will be forced to leave the school for a period of time, usually either a semester or a full year. Once the student has served her time away, she is permitted to return to school.

    Expulsion

    • Academic cheating can result in expulsion. This means that the student must leave school and never return.
