Find a university that offers a four-year degree with a focus on child education. Many states require that you have at least a bachelor's degree in order to teach at a public school. You may be able to get by with a two-year degree, but your best option is getting your bachelor's.
Research several schools to find out which will be best for you. Consider former student experiences, location, job placement opportunities and total cost. You should also look into potential financial aid awards if you are concerned about your financial ability to attend.
Apply to the school in question. As a rule, you should apply to several schools in case your first school does not work out. Do not forget to ask each school if any previous college credit will transfer.
Proceed through the university's bachelor's program and let your adviser guide you through the process of earning your degree in child education. You will also have the opportunity to take many unrelated courses that will strengthen your academic background.
Attend summer classes and take more course hours than necessary if you would like to accelerate your graduation. With the right work ethic it is possible to get a four-year degree in three years.
