There are 110 colleges, trade schools and universities in the New York City area. New York City has the largest student population in the country, with almost 500,000 enrolled students, according to NYC Higher Education. Universities in New York City offer a full range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, as well as the experience of living in one of the busiest metropolitan areas in the world.
  1. Columbia University

    • Columbia University's main campus is located in Manhattan on the Upper West Side. It is composed of three undergraduate schools: Columbia College, the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the School of General Studies. The campus also houses several graduate schools, including Columbia Law School and Columbia Business School. Columbia Medical School is located at the Columbia University Medical Center in Washington Heights. Columbia ranks fourth on U.S. News and World Report's Best Colleges List in 2011. Its 2010-2011 tuition rate is $43,304.

    New York University (NYU)

    • NYU ranks 33rd on U.S. News and World Report's 2011 Best Colleges List. Its main campus is located in Manhattan in Greenwich Village. NYU is divided into a number of schools and colleges, including the College of Arts and Sciences, Tisch School of the Arts, NYU School of Law and NYU School of Medicine. NYU is unique in that there is no traditional campus. There are no borders separating NYU from Manhattan. NYU has an active Greek population, with 25 fraternities and sororities. Tuition and fees for 2010-2011 are $38,765.

    Fordham University

    • Fordham is a private Roman Catholic university with three campus locations in New York City. The first, in the Bronx, is within walking distance to the Bronx Zoo and Little Italy. The second, the Lincoln Center, is near Central Park. The third, the Westchester campus, is located in West Harrison, New York. Students can travel between the Bronx campus and the Lincoln Center campus on a free shuttle bus or by subway. The 2010-2011 tuition and fees at Fordham are $38,277, and it ranks 56th on the U.S. News and World Reports 2011 Best Colleges List.

    Pace University

    • Pace University ranks 170th on U.S. News and World Report's 2011 Best College's List. It is located in lower Manhattan. Pace provides students with the benefits of living in New York City, with the personal attention associated with a smaller college. Class sizes average 28 students, and the total undergraduate enrollment is just under 8,000 students. Its tuition and fees for 2010-2011 are $33,612.

    Yeshiva University

    • Yeshiva University is a Jewish university with three undergraduate colleges, all of which are located in Manhattan. Yeshiva also has a campus in Israel. It also has a law school and a medical school. There are around 50 student organizations on campus, including a daily newspaper and a newspaper written in Hebrew. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of around 2,800 students, and tuition and fees for 2010-2011 at $33,050. It ranks 50th on U.S. News and World Report's 2011 Best Colleges List.
