How to Test a Generator Program

A generator program is one that runs a specific generator. Most generators are computer based, so that you can program them to turn on and off and set a running schedule. Even computer based generators can be used without power, because they are programed to turn on when the power (and the communicating computer program) is no longer there. You can test a generator program by setting it for a test run, or by setting it in a specific way and watching to see if it works.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on both your generator and your computer that has the generator program. Access the program according to the program specific directions. Select "Set Generator" or "Set Generator Programs" to program the generator.

    • 2

Select "Test Generator" to test the generator and the program, if your program has this option. This will automatically power down whatever the generator is responsible for, and then power up the generator to test that it is working correctly. If your generator does not have this option, proceed to the next step to test it manually.

Set the program for the generator manually to turn it on at a specific time. Set it to automatically turn off in a matter of minutes. Then wait for the select time and watch to see that the generator turns on.
