Barnard College, founded in 1889, is located in Manhattan. Students can take advantage of a partnership with Columbia University, also located in New York City, which allows them to take classes and participate in Columbia's student organizations. The enrollment is 2,340 undergraduate students from all over the U.S. and more than 40 countries, and its academic program is "rigorous but flexibly structured."
According to its website, Bryn Mawr College "is one of the world's most distinctive, distinguished colleges." Located in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, the enrollment is 1,300 undergraduate students and 400 graduate students from around the world. The college has 100 student organizations and clubs and is located 20 minutes from Philadelphia by high-speed train. Bryn Mawr has social and academic relationships with the University of Pennsylvania, Haverford College and Swarthmore College.
Mount Holyoke College, the first college formed among the Seven Sisters, is located in South Hadley, Massachusetts, an hour and half from Boston and three hours from New York City. The college offers 48 majors, and students can also design their own. According to its website, Mount Holyoke has a "long, distinguished history of educating leaders" and was ranked number one for "best classroom experience" by The Princeton Review Guide's 2011 edition of The Best 373 Colleges.
Smith College, located in Northampton, Massachusetts, was founded in 1871. According to its website, it's "among the largest women's colleges in the United States." Its students come from 48 states and 72 countries for a total enrollment of 2,850 undergraduates. Smith College participates in the Five College Cooperation, which allows students to take courses and enjoy other privileges at nearby Amherst, Hampshire, and Mount Holyoke, as well as the University of Massachusetts.
Wellesley College is located in Wellesley, Massachusetts, about a half-hour from Boston. It was founded in 1870 and has an enrollment of 2,400 undergraduates, most of whom live on campus in its residence halls. Wellesley students can take advantage of the Three-College Alliance between Babson, Olin, and Wellesley and the opportunity for cross-registration with MIT and Brandeis. According to its website, "seemingly every hobby, activity, and interest" is represented in 160 student organizations.
