Ensure that you are able to meet all of the minimum requirements to transfer to the university. These requirements are based on recommendations made by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Students wanting to transfer to NSU must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in their other undergraduate course work. Students holding an associate's degree from a two-year school in the commonwealth are automatically admitted to the school, but not necessarily to the degree program of their choice because some departments may require a minimum GPA or prerequisite course work.
Complete and submit your application to the office of admissions. There is a $100 application fee required of all transfer applicants, as of the 2010-11 school year. You can submit your application for admission by applying online through the NSU website. You must also submit official transcripts from all colleges attended. If you have fewer than 12 credits from any post-secondary institutions, you must submit your high school transcripts instead. You must also submit your ACT or SAT scores if you have fewer than 12 hours of college-level course work. A medical history must also be sent to the office of admissions before they will process your application.
Obtain additional credit by taking and passing CLEP examinations that indicate you have sufficient knowledge in a field to be awarded college credit. All of your credits will be evaluated by the college and you may or may not receive credit for every course you have taken. If you have knowledge in a field not listed on your transcript, you may be able to obtain some credit by taking an examination rather than taking a class on it later.
Obtain a recommendation letter from a professor or administrator familiar with your work at your previous institution. This is not a requirement for transfer students, but the NSU website suggests this step as a way to enhance your application and increase likelihood of admission.
