Colleges That Specialize in Sports Agents

While many sports agents have traditional marketing or law degrees, some colleges and universities offer specialized sports marketing programs for aspiring agents. These programs provide coursework devoted to all aspects of a sports agent's career, including negotiations, marketing and customer relations. Many of these schools offer assistance with internships and job placement.
  1. Baylor University

    • Baylor University in Waco, Texas offers a special sports sponsorship and sales major. This program prepares students for a career in sports marketing with a degree in one of three specialized tracks. Students can choose from ticket sales, customer relationship management or media sales. Baylor also assists in finding students internships and real world sports marketing experience. This program is for junior and seniors and requires at least a 2.5 GPA.

    Duquesne University

    • Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania offers a business administration bachelor's degree in sports marketing for students seeking careers in sports retail, media relations and management. Duquesne's proximity to several major league teams provides many internship opportunities for marketing students. The sports marketing degree is also offered as a minor and as a second major. A minimum 2.5 GPA is required for this program.

    University of Oregon

    • The University of Oregon in Eugene offers a sports business concentration within its business administration program. The concentration includes coursework in sponsorships, legal issues and sports financing, in addition to the core business curriculum. Oregon's unique relationship with the local sports industry provides internship opportunities with companies such as Nike and Adidas. The Warsaw Sports Marketing Center offers additional chances to learn and make professional contacts.

    Seton Hall University

    • Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey offers a bachelor of science in business administration with a concentration in sports management. Classes in the Seton Hall Center for Sports Management cover all aspects of the industry, including labor relations, sponsorships and ethics. Internships are available from a host of nearby professional teams. The Sport Management Student Association hosts several annual events for students in this program.
