The Agricultural and Mechanical University of Florida's nursing school offers students a choice of four nursing degrees. The Bachelor of Science degree in nursing is a four-year program that prepares students for entry-level nursing jobs with clinical, hands-on experience and knowledge of nursing theory. The Registered Nurse-to-Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs allows registered nurses who have diplomas or associate's degrees to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in only one year. Those who wish to pursue education beyond a Bachelor's degree can earn a Master of Science in Nursing, and become an advanced practice nurse, or a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science, a cooperative degree with the University of Florida.
The University of Tampa offers four accredited nursing programs. The Bachelor of Science degree in nursing is a four-year program designed for students who do not possess nursing credits from a previous college program. Admission is competitive and students need 65 credit hours in nursing courses, along with 60 credit hours of general courses, to graduate. The Master of Science nursing degree prepares students for clinical management and primary care roles with specialties such as family and adult nurse practice. The University of Tampa has partnered with the Case Western Reserve University to offer a Doctorate of Nursing Practice, or DNP, which allows students to become advanced practice nurses.
The University of Central Florida's college of nursing also offers a variety of nursing degrees. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing, or BSN, degree is available at the Cocoa, Orlando and Daytona campus locations and intended for students who have completed a non-nursing associate's degree and some college classes. Admission is limited and students earn this degree in five semesters. Students who have a non-nursing bachelor's degree or higher can take the Accelerated Second Degree BSN program. The university also offers several online programs for licensed registered nurses to earn bachelor's and master's nursing degrees. Additional degrees include Master's of Science in Nursing, offered online, Doctorate of Nursing Practice and Doctorate of Philosophy in Nursing.
The University of Florida's nursing college is one of the oldest bachelor and graduate degree programs in the U.S. and has more than 80 faculty members and 700 students. This university offers both accelerated and generic Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree programs. The Master of Science in Nursing degree is for students who have already earned a BSN and wish to become advanced practice nurses. Additional nursing degrees available at the University of Florida include a Doctor of Nursing Practice, which is an advanced clinical degree, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Nursing Science for those who wish to specialize in science and research.
