The University of South Carolina maintains a main campus in Beaufort and a satellite campus in Bluffton. Opened in 1959, USCB offers 14 degree programs to more than 1,500 students. The hospitality management program at USCB offers students to study the management of hospitality services through both academic study and internship experiences in Hilton Head Island.
The New River campus of the Technical College of the Lowcountry is located in Bluffton. The Bluffton campus offers a computer center, technology classrooms and a 60-seat classroom. Additionally, all classes offered at any TCL campus can be taken at the Bluffton campus via teleconferencing. TCL offers two-year degrees and certificates in more than 70 programs, including early care, business, administrative technology and criminal justice.
Savannah College of Art and Design -- in Savannah, Georgia -- is less than 20 miles from Bluffton. SCAD offers fine arts degrees in more than 40 disciplines to more than 10,000 students, including architecture, fashion and interior design. SCAD also maintains 16 public museums, many of which house works of art by prominent artists and students alike. SCAD is also actively involved with historic preservation, with students having the opportunity to restore and adapt historic buildings throughout Savannah for modern use.
SSU, located in Savannah, is less than 25 miles from Bluffton. As the oldest historically black college in Georgia, SSU consists of three colleges and four research centers that serve almost 4,000 students. The College of Business Administration offers students the opportunity to obtain four-year degrees in subjects such as marketing, accounting and management. Additionally, through the Georgia Tech Regional Engineering Program, students are able to take engineering classes at SSU but graduate with an engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
