List of Division 1 Universities

NCAA stands for National Collegiate Athletic Association, which was founded in 1906 to provide guidance and protection to college students from accidents and injuries induced by athletic sports. The NCAA continues to serve that goal and also supports the development of balanced education by promoting intercollegiate sports. In 1973, the NCAA divided its members to three divisions according to various factors, such as number of sports, schedules and financial aid offered to its athletes.
