Holding the title of Tennessee's first community college, Columbia State is centrally located in the city of Columbia with campuses in four other locations including Franklin, Lawrenceburg, Lewisburg and Clifton. Serving nine counties throughout central Tennessee, the community college offers an associate degree in more than 50 areas of study. With this two-year degree, graduates can either find employment immediately or transfer over to a four-year university. Columbia State is also home to nationally recognized baseball, softball and basketball teams. And for those with a more artistic leaning, the Cherry Theater and Pryor Art Gallery are both located on campus.
Located in Columbia, the Tennessee Career Institute offers a variety of courses in the fields of cosmetology, nail technology and esthetics. TCI is not only geared toward individuals with interests in the aforementioned fields but also for those who would perform better in a non-traditional school setting. According to TCI's Web site, the school uses cutting-edge education methodology to train its students and give them the skills and knowledge they need to enter the workforce. Individuals with a high school diploma or GED may apply.
Situated in Columbia, the Maury Regional Medical Center is recognized as one of the nation's top 100 hospitals. The medical center offers a handful of courses in continuing education for MRMC employees and other health care professionals. A few of the classes offered at MRMC include, but are not limited to, advanced cardiac life support, bedside triage, diabetes, neonatal resuscitation, pacemaker and physical assessment. The medical center also offers authorized courses in CPR and ECC for anyone and everyone interested.
The O'More College of Design in Franklin, Tenn., is only about a 20-minute drive outside of Maury County. O'More is officially recognized by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges, the Council for Interior Design Accreditation and the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. O'More offers a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design, Fashion Design and Visual Communications. O'More's mission is to inspire creativity, innovation and purpose through individual attention including exhibits, programs, continuing education and service projects.
