Mathematics is a key set of skills in life, and is taught from an early age at school. Children generally start counting properly from the age of 2 to 3,and over the next five years these skills are built upon so that simple arithmetic can be carried out by the age of 7 to 8. More complex arithmetic, such as using parentheses, is the basis of advanced mathematics such as algebra, and it is generally taught to ages older than 8 to 9 (3rd grade). Mastering these skills at 3rd grade will help a child understand more complex algebra later in life.

1
Write down the problem on a piece of paper. For example:
21 + (100-25) = ?
Parentheses are used to indicate parts of the problem that should be evaluated first.
-
2
Evaluate the sum in the parentheses, which in this problem is 75, and write down the simpler problem. For example:
21+ 75 = ?

-
3
Evaluate the rest of the problem. For example:
21+ 75 = 96
