Provide a ruler to each student and multiple items of varying sizes for measurement practice. Another option is to provide a page with pictures of different items for measuring.
Show your students how to line the ruler up with the edge of the item being measured. In a large classroom, teachers may need to demonstrate this multiple times to smaller groups of students.
Have students measure to the nearest inch. The students must have to ability to recognize numbers 1 through 12.
Provide practice opportunities for students. Worksheets and activities, such as measuring furniture in the classroom, are examples of practice activities for your students.
