Cost to Attend the Top Engineering Schools

Every year, U.S. News and World Report ranks the country's universities based on tuition, total enrollment, acceptance rate, freshmen retention rate, and a 6-year graduation rate. The magazine also ranks schools based on the area of study, including undergraduate schools with the best engineering programs.
  1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology

    • MIT was ranked No. 1 as the best engineering school. Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, this school costs $39,212 a year for the 2010-2011 school year. This figure is for tuition and fees only. Room and board are extra $11,234, as well as books and personal expenditures for $2,764.

    Stanford

    • Standford University in California ranks No. 2. Tution is $38,700 and room and board is an additional $11,876. Add in the fees, books, and other expenses, and a the typical 2010-2011 year costs $55,385.

    University of California, Berkley

    • U.S. News listed University of California, Berkley, as its third choice for best engineering school. In-state students are charged $31,046 for tuition, housing, fees, books, and other expenses. An out-of-state student pays this, as well as an additional $22,878. Students who live in state, but who live off campus pays less than a student residing in the dorms.

    California Institute of Technology

    • Caltech ranks No. 4 on U.S. News' 2011 best engineering schools list. Cost of attending this college is $52,389 a year. This figure include everything from tuition to personal extras. Students are charged a $500 fee their first semester at the college and pay it only once.
