Bowling Green's undergraduate sport management program leads to a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. Students choose specializations in sport communication, sport marketing or sport enterprise. Students require a 2.5 overall grade point average to be accepted into the program, whose undergraduate and master's degrees are SMPRC-approved. Part of the academic year at this Ohio university will be devoted to field work, practicum and internships at sports organizations such as the Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Celtics, Atlanta Hawks and Cleveland Indians. As of fall 2010, Bowling Green had 534 students enrolled in its sports management program.
This university's Department of Sport Management enrolled 455 students in 2010 for its Bachelor of Science Sport Management program, as well as having SMPRC-approval of its B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. sport management degrees. Required courses include economics, accounting, management, marketing and corporate finance, while the sport management major include sports law, sport finance, sociology of sport and sport management policy. Students must have a 2.8 GPA or higher to qualify to complete an internship with one of the department's many participating sports organizations.
Indiana State University offers a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Sport Management, which prepares undergraduates for later careers in sport performance, sport production or sport promotion. The University's bachelor's and master's sport management programs are SMPRC-approved. Core courses include legal aspects of sport management, management theory in sport management, and financials aspects of sport management, as well as a required internship. Electives include sport sponsorship, nonprofit management and issues and trends in recreation management.
The University of Texas offers a sport management major as part of its Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Health. Students enter the program after their sophomore year to complete courses in sport law, sport philosophy, revenue and budgeting in sport and event promotion, as well as a required internship. The University has a cap of 120 undergraduate students so that each student will receive individual attention. In addition to the Bachelor of Science degree, the University offers master's and doctoral degrees in sport management, all of which are SMPRC-approved.
