Adult Learning Bachelor Degrees

In 2007, the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems reported that 40 percent of the United States' 16 million college students were 25 years of age or older. As a response to the growing demand, more universities and colleges offer programs to accommodate adult learners returning to school for a bachelor's degree.
  1. Regis University College of Professional Studies

    • Regis University College of Professional Studies, with eight campuses located throughout Colorado and Nevada, features campus-based and online study opportunities for adults. Four schools within the university provide bachelor's degrees in management, humanities, social sciences, computer sciences and education. Regular semesters run 16 weeks and accelerated terms are eight or five weeks. Of the 5586 undergraduate students enrolled in 2010, 65 percent were women. Annual tuition and fees for 2010-2011 totaled $30,588. Regis University CPS, created specifically for returning adult learners, has a Jesuit Catholic affiliation.

    The University of Missouri

    • The University of Missouri offers a unique degree completion program for adults who have earned an associate's degree or at least 60 credit hours. Returning students earn a bachelor's of general studies through the school's center for distance and independent study. To complete the degree, students choose three components from the areas of social sciences, English, humanities, education and business. Student may enroll at any time and have nine months to complete each course. Tuition for the Spring 2011 term was $245.60 per credit hour.

    Lesley University

    • Lesley University caters to adult students through the Center for the Adult Learner, located on the the Lesley campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Services offered through the center include academic advising, assistance with degree planning and credit assessment for prior life and work experience. Students may choose between on-campus classes or online course. A hybrid of both options is also available. As of 2010, students paid $480 per credit hour. Senior citizens receive a 10 percent discount.

    SUNY Empire State College

    • State University of New York established Empire State College in 1971, specifically for adult learners. Students work with a mentor to design a bachelor's degree that incorporates general studies with one or more areas of study. Students have a choice of attending classes on campus in New York or to complete courses online. Independent study is also available, where students work one on one with the instructor at a distance. Tuition for the fall 2010 term was $207 per credit hour for in-state residents and distance-learning students.
