Colleges for Black Men Only

Only four traditional all-male colleges remain in the United States. Of these, only one predominately educates African American men. Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have been in the United States since 1837. They were first established by white philanthropists, free blacks, states or churches to educate the sons and daughters of former slaves. HBCUs provide a unique environment for African American students to learn and create a sense of identity, heritage and community.
