The College of Southern Nevada's Ralph and Betty Engelstad School of Health Sciences offers a pair of programs for aspiring dental hygienists. The first is a two-year associate of science in dental hygiene degree, which is held at the university's Charleston campus, located in Las Vegas. The other is a bachelor of science in dental hygiene degree, which is offered online and is open to students with an active dental hygiene license and a degree from an accredited dental hygiene program looking to further their education. The associate program is open only to full-time students, while the bachelor's can be taken both full-time and part-time.
Located in New York City, New York University's College of Dentistry offers the associate in applied science degree program in dental hygiene and the bachelor of science degree program in dental hygiene. The associate's degree requires students to earn 78 credits, taken over two or three years. It also offers evening classes. The bachelor's degree requires students to earn 128 credits. It is open to dental health care providers who wish to get into the fields of education, research, health care management and public health, or simply to broaden their education.
Located in Bradenton, Florida, about 25 miles south of St. Petersburg, the State College of Florida offers an associate in science degree in dental hygiene. The program offers courses focusing on both the technical aspects of dental hygiene and general education courses in areas like science and communication. Students gain experience from working in the school's dental clinic, which is equipped with 13 dental units, as well as in local clinics.
Located an hour's drive east of Los Angeles, Loma Linda University's School of Dentistry has three dental hygiene programs. It offers two entry level programs, a bachelor of science and an associate of science, as well as an online bachelor of science program intended to allow dental hygienists to further their education. The school aims to give students a hands-on education, on top of the theoretical aspects, through laboratory exercises and clinical assignments. The school also runs its own dental clinic.
