Texas Universities That Do Not Require GMAT

A very popular graduate degree choice among those working in business is a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or a Master of Public Administration (MPA). Most major universities require students to take the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) for admission into these types of programs. There are some universities within the continental United States that do not hold their students to this requirement or provide a waiver in specific situations. Some of these universities are found in the state of Texas.
  1. University of Dallas

    • Located on the outskirts of Dallas, Texas, in Irving, the University of Dallas is a private Catholic university. Student wishing to pursue an MBA or graduate degree in business have several options. This university does not require students to take the GMAT for admission to its graduate programs. Instead, students are evaluated on their professional credentials. Students choose from an early career MBA program for students with less than four years in a business field; an MBA with a concentration in finance and accounting; the MBA bridge, which was developed for those who want to complete the program in no more than six terms; or the MS/MBA dual degree for students who want an MBA along with a concentrated focus in business.

    Texas A&M University - Commerce

    • Located in Commerce, Texas, the College of Business Administration at Texas A&M University will waive GMAT requirements for all students who have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA in their undergraduate studies at an accredited university. Additionally, for students who do not wish to take the GMAT, this university will accept the GRE as an alternative admissions test, should the student need the test score for admission. Texas A&M University - Commerce has been educating students throughout Texas and the world since 1889. It is part of the Texas A&M university system and offers over 100 degree programs to its students.

    University of Texas - El Paso

    • Located in the Texas/Mexico border city of El Paso, the University of Texas - El Paso offers a variety of choices for students wishing to earn an MBA. This university does not require the GMAT for admission. In lieu of the GMAT, students must prove work experience in business along with providing a variety of letters of recommendation from their professional colleagues and college professors. Students will choose from an accelerated MBA, executive MBA, flexible MBA, full-time MBA and combined MBA/MPA program. The University of Texas - El Paso is part of the much larger University of Texas system and caters to the needs of the individual student.

    University of Houston - Victoria

    • Located in Victoria, Texas, the University of Houston - Victoria is a satellite branch of the much larger University of Houston. Students who wish to earn an MBA have the opportunity to gain admission without taking the GMAT. There are several criteria a student must meet in order to gain admission, which include proof of earning an undergraduate degree from an accredited university, an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in all undergraduate studies and a GRE score which is less than five years old. Students must file a waiver with the dean of admissions in order to gain admission without a GMAT score. Students who attend the University of Houston - Victoria have several campus choices, including the Victoria, the Sugar Land and the Cinco Ranch campus. Students also have the opportunity to take advantage of online learning opportunities while attending the university.
