Forensics investigators use the sciences in ways to help legal authorities determine the who, what, when, where and why a crime is committed. They may use biology, chemistry, astronomy, physics, meteorology and a host of other disciplines to help them solve their cases.

    • Duquesne University (duq.edu) offers a number of programs to students interested in a career in forensics through its Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law. The institute offers a 12- to 18-credit certificate program in forensic science and law that features a combination of online and live sessions. Students can receive a master's in forensic science and law through a five-year course of study taught by science and law professors. Students also can pursue a master of science in nursing with a forensic nursing track or obtain a post-master's certificate in forensic nursing.
