WebAssign is an online academic tool, developed at North Carolina State University. Instructors use it to assign, and grade, premade homework problems. WebAssign is also partnered with textbook publishers, offering supplemental online e-textbooks. WebAssign questions are modeled after textbook questions but vary certain data within each problem. WebAssign also offers tools to aid instructors in creating their own questions. The tool is free for instructors, but is fee-based for students; there is a fee for each semester or quarter for each course that uses the program. Many textbooks, however, include free access as part of the cost of the book, when bought new.

Enter a carat: ^. The carat is placed between the base number and the exponent of the exponential term. For example, if you want to enter the term for squaring the number 8, the notation would be: 8^2. You may also use a double asterisk to denote an exponent: **. For example, proper notation for the squaring of 8 would be: 8**2.
