How to Head a College Essay

The task of writing a college essay can be overwhelming, especially when writing a college paper for the first time. One way to reduce this overwhelming feeling involves knowing the expectations of your professor. A professor’s expectations may include a specific format for heading your essay. Professors may deduct points from your overall grade if you don’t meet their heading requirements. According to Lime-Benton Community College, professors may have varying college essay heading requirements, two of which can be found below.

      Change your document’s text alignment, located under “Paragraph” options of the “Format” menu, to “Right” alignment.

      Type your name and hit “Enter” on your keyboard to start a new line.

      Enter the following information on your second line: Course Number, Professor’s Name, Meeting Days and Time.

      Start a new line by pressing “Enter” and write out the essay’s due date.

      Hit “Enter” to begin a new line and type a brief description of your assignment, for instance “Essay Assignment 1.”

      Go under “Paragraph” options and change line spacing to “Double.” Also, change alignment to “Center.”

      Press “Enter,” and type out the title of your paper. To begin writing your paper, start a new line and change alignment to “Left.”

      Change line spacing to “Double” by going to “Paragraph” options, located under the “Format” menu.

      Type your name and press “Enter.”

      Enter the course number of the class the essay is for and hit “Enter.”

      Enter the due date of your paper in the following format: MM-DD-YYYY.
