How to Calculate VCE Enter

All major student districts have means to evaluate students before they move on to a higher level of education. The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is given to high school graduates in Victoria, Australia. After, they are given an Equivalent National Tertiary Entrance Rank (ENTER), which is a percentile rank of the student in relation to other students in Victoria. You can determine you ENTER rank through a straightforward process.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the scores for your top five subjects, one of which must be English. For example, your scores might be:

      Physics: 40

      Math: 35

      History: 41

      English: 38

      Business: 32

    • 2

Add English plus the next three highest scores.

      Physics (40) + Math (35) + History (41) + English (38) = 154

    • 3

Add 10 percent of the score of the lowest subject. In the example, it would be Business:

10% of 32 is 3.2. Add 3.2 to 154, and it equals 157.2. This is your aggregate score.

    • 4

Determine your VCE ENTER rank based on your score's relationship to other students in Victoria. The top score (usually 200) is set at the 100 percentile with decreasing scores corresponding to a decrease in ENTER. In the example, a student who receives a 157.2 in a year when the top score is 200 would fall in the 79th percentile for their ENTER rank. The formula is: 157/200 = 78.6 (rounded to 79).
