Social reality is a plane on which a social construct exists. It is created as a result of our social interactions. Unlike natural reality and subjective reality, social reality does not occur due to natural laws. Rather, it is who we are; it is in our behavior, culture, traditions, and it affects how we perceive different situations. We never really realize social reality, although it affects how we interact with other people on a daily basis.
This is described as a shared or common understanding that helps human beings, referred to as subjects in philosophy, relate to each other. The concept of intersubjectivity is that if a subject is put in another subject's shoes, the subject would make the same choices.
This theory states that a social construct depend upon a background of brute facts or natural reality. It also states that social constructs assign functions to objects. Perhaps the best example to use is money. In reality, money is simply paper. It's valuable because we all share the same belief. It is used as a medium of exchange because we have assigned it that function. We buy and sell things using money. Most people spend their entire lives trying to make as much money as possible because they believe in its value. Through our belief, pieces of decorated paper dictate how a large number of people live, and it will continue to have value as long as we believe it does.
This theory states that since social reality affects how we perceive and understand the world, it cannot completely be separated from natural reality. This does not mean that there is no such thing as natural reality. What it means is that we cannot view natural reality properly as we are affected by our social constructs. For example, we have different colors. Green is different from other colors because we have all been taught this. We all have learned how to differentiate one thing from another. How we make sense of reality is largely due to our social constructs and, as such, we cannot completely separate social reality from natural reality.
