How to Get a Bachelor of Arts in Science

You don't have to get a Bachelor of Science to get a degree or a career in the science field. You can obtain a Bachelor of Arts and still reap the benefits of getting a science-focused education. Most of the courses will be the same when you get a B.A., but you will focus less on technical aspects of science or may not need to take upper-level courses in scientific areas like biology and chemistry. For example, you can get a B.A. in Environmental Science or a B.A. in Biological Sciences.

  1. Getting a B.A. in Science

    • 1

Decide whether you need a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree. A Bachelor of Science degree will require taking more courses in your specific field. A Bachelor of Arts focuses on a more well-rounded background. Know what is required in your chosen field.

    • 2

Talk to your counselor to determine what type of job you can get with a B.A. in Science. Realize you probably will need a B.S. if you know you want to go the technical route. For example, you will need a B.S. if you want to work as a chemist, but you could get a B.A. in mathematics and still be a math teacher.

    • 3

Pick interdisciplinary courses. Take many of the same courses required for a B.S. degree while choosing a variety of electives.

    • 4

Make sure you are on track to graduate. Meet with your preceptor or college counselor at the end of your junior year to ensure that all the courses you need to graduate are available your senior year.
