What Universities Have the Largest Student Population?

Choosing a college is difficult --- many look at the courses offered, student-to-faculty ratio and the size of the campus. When the campus is large, the choice may be more difficult because students wonder how the large student population will affect the learning process. However, even with large student populations, some universities still remain prestigious and reputable.
  1. Ohio State University

    • With a recorded 60,477 students in the 2010-2011 school year, Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, is one of the largest universities in the country. Students can attend six campuses: Columbus, Lima, Mansfield, Marion, Newark, and ATI-Wooster. At OSU, the student-to-faculty ratio is 12:1. Seventy percent of the freshman classes have fewer than 40 students, 22 percent have 40-99 students, and 7 percent have more than 100 students.

    Arizona State University

    • In Tempe, Ariz., Arizona State University has a population of more than 70,000. ASU has four campuses in Arizona: Tempe, Downtown Phoenix, West and Polytechnic. At ASU, the student-to-professor ratio is 23.7:1. Tuition at Arizona State is approximately $4,067 per semester for Arizona residents, and $10,299 per semester for non-residents. Students at ASU have more than 250 undergraduate programs from which to choose.

    University of Florida, Gainsville

    • With a 2,000-acre campus, more than 900 buildings and a student population of more than 50,000, the University of Florida is one of the largest universities in Florida. UF has 16 colleges and more than 100 research centers, service centers and institutes. Despite the large student population, the class sizes remain less than 25 students. At UF, the residence halls have a total capacity of 7,500 students. Tuition at UF is approximately $19,820 per year for undergraduate students and $27,230 per year for graduate students. The costs include books and supplies, computer costs, food, transportation, clothing maintenance and health insurance.

    University of Minnesota Twin Cities

    • With a student population of approximately 67,932, and five campuses spread throughout Minnesota, University of Minnesota Twin Cities is one of the largest and most prestigious public research universities in the nation. At UMTC, there are 143 degree programs, thousands of courses, and options for service learning and international study. Tuition at UMTC for undergraduate Minnesota residents is approximately $4,897 per semester and $7,047 for non-residents.
