How to Create a Guidebook for a Culminating Experience

Students in both high school and college usually undergo a culminating project experience. Often, this is in the form of a thesis paper, but other times it's a special project or other final assignment. Don't leave your students in the dark about how they can score well on their final assignment. Create a guidebook that walks them through the entire process and includes every bit of information they need to complete the culminating experience.

Instructions

    • 1

Write the introduction and basic information to explain the project. Describe the type of culminating experience -- thesis, special project, etc. -- and the basic purpose.

    • 2

List the guidelines and rules of the project. This can take one page or several pages, depending upon the project complexity.

    • 3

Explain how to choose the culminating experience topic. If the student must write a thesis paper you may want him to clear the topic with you first. Include any other specifications the students must meet in choosing a topic.

    • 4

Attach a grading rubric. Explain the standards each student must meet to be ranked "Below Standard," "Meets Standards" and "Exceeds Standards."

    • 5

Include project deadlines at the end of the guidebook. List the exact date and the tasks students must have completed by that date.

    • 6

Write a table of contents and attach it to the front of the document. You may also create a cover page naming the project and year of the project, if you wish. Save as a PDF document.
