Obtain a copy of the FAFSA form from any college financial aid office or by visiting the FAFSA website and filing the form electronically. Each year students are required to file a FAFSA to determine financial aid status.
Complete the FAFSA. On the form, provide the student's name, address, Social Security number, date of birth, tax return information, dependent information, marital status and parental income information if the student is a dependent.
Mail the FAFSA to the address listed on the application or submit it online. The federal government sends correspondence via postal mail or email -- depending on the student's filing choice -- regarding the student's financial aid status.
