How to Apply for a Federal Grant for College

The federal government provides access to the Pell Grant for students who need financial aid. This is a grant given by the federal government that the recipient does not need to pay back; The grant helps pay for tuition and other college expenses. However, you must fill out a Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) before receiving any money.

You need to include information such as your (and your parents', if applicable) work income, tax withholdings and other sources of income.

  Enter your school's federal aid code when requested by the FAFSA. If you do not know the code, contact your school's financial aid department for assistance. You may enter more than one code, if desired.
