How to Sign My Direct Student Loan Promissory Note

In order to receive any Direct Loans from the federal government, you must sign a promissory note for the loan. This note is a contract in which you agree to pay back the money on the student loan. You need the PIN number you were assigned when you completed FAFSA to sign the promissory note. Once you have your PIN number, you can sign into your account and then sign your promissory note online.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit studentloans.gov, the federal student loans website, and sign in.

    • 2

Enter your Social Security Number, the first two letters of your last name, your date of birth and your PIN number from your FAFSA.

    • 3

Select "Sign Master Promissory Note" after you log into your account.

    • 4

Read through your Master Promissory Note for any errors and select that you agree to the conditions in the contract. This acts as you signing the note.

Print a copy of the Master Promissory Note for your records.
