Contact your home school's financial aid department. Taiwan's increasing desire to have foreign students study abroad in their country has meant an increase in the amount of materials they have sent to many colleges and universities around the country. Many scholarships sit unclaimed in your university's financial aid department, and the financial aid staff are frequently too busy to adequately advertise all the available scholarships.
Contact your guidance counselor if you are still in high school. The bulk of scholarships available go to students who already have at least one year of university study under their belt, but your high school guidance counselor may be able to assist those who wish to study abroad as a freshman.
Consult your major's department chair of at your university. A number of scholarships available are dependent upon area of study and such scholarships are typically mailed to department chairs instead of financial aid offices.
Use any extra skills to your advantage, even if they are outside your major. Are you fluent in Mandarin? Are you fluent enough to use it as a course of study in Taiwan? Or perhaps you have taken considerable course work in Asian studies. Either way, there are scholarships available which are designed specifically for Asian-related studies for study abroad in Taiwan.
Contact the university where you wish to do your study abroad to see what kind of scholarships they have available. Don't hesitate to contact both the university's administrative departments and the area of study you wish to engage in while studying abroad in Taiwan.
Start your search at least six to nine months in advance. This will give your school enough time to get your materials to you and for you to gather all the materials necessary in order to apply.
Be prepared to write several essays stating why you wish to study in Taiwan and use a proofreader to go over these essays.
Apply for multiple scholarships. You'll be competing with a number of students who want to study abroad and it is unlikely you will win every scholarship available.
