College Scholarships & Grants for Korean Americans

Paying for college can be a challenge, especially as education costs are continually increasing. For students of Korean American descent, there are a number of scholarship and grant programs available to help defray the costs of higher education. While finding and applying for these programs can be time-consuming, they can provide a significant financial benefit to Korean American students.
  1. Korean American Medical Association Scholarship

    • The Korean American Medical Association (KAMA) awards two to five $2,000 scholarships annually to Korean American medical students in good standing. Scholarships are intended to be used for clinical research and are awarded based on the applicant's proposed use for the funds. Those who receive the scholarship must attend a KAMA conference, where they must give a PowerPoint presentation summarizing their research and how the scholarship funds were used.

    Korean American Scholarship Foundation Scholarships

    • The Korean American Scholarship Foundation offers three scholarship programs for Korean American students. Scholarships of $1,000 are available to both undergraduate and graduate students and awards are based on academic achievement, financial need and service to the community.

    Korean American Youth Foundation Scholarship

    • The Korean American Youth Foundation awards scholarships of $1,000 to Korean American high school and college students with a demonstrated financial need. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and must submit a letter of acceptance from their chosen college and a copy of their parents' most recent tax return. Recipients are also required to attend the foundation's annual conference.

    Korean Honor Scholarship

    • Korean Honor Scholarships are available to Korean American students currently attending a college or university in the U.S. or Canada. Applicants must have a 3.5 GPA or higher and recipients are chosen based on academic achievement, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, and academic honors or awards.

    William Orr Dingwall Foundation Korean Ancestry Grant

    • The William Orr Dingwall Foundation provides grants of up to $20,000 annually for students of Korean American descent. Applicants must be accepted at an accredited university or currently pursuing a degree, and must maintain at least a 3.5 GPA for the duration of the grant. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, a sealed academic transcript, and a personal essay along with their application.

    Korean American Scientists and Engineers Association Scholarships

    • The Korean American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA) provides scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students who are currently pursing a degree in the scientific or engineering fields. In addition to pursuing a scientific or engineering degree, applicants must be a member of KSEA, demonstrate academic achievement, and participate in community involvement activities. Graduate recipients must also attend the annual US-Korea Conference to present an abstract on their particular area of research.
