The American Medical Association offers a variety of physician scholarships, some of them designated for women and the minorities.
The AMA Foundation Minority Scholars Award is awarded to 10 students each year from minority backgrounds who are in their second or third year of medical school.
The Joan F. Giambalvo Memorial Scholarship was developed to provide funds to advance the progress of women in the medical field and focus on issues that affect women medical students and physicians.
The AMA also established the AMA Minority Affairs Consortium (MAC) and the AMA Women Physicians Congress, which provide information, support and funding for women and minorities within the medical field. More information along with applications are found on the AMA financial aid website.

The university's Institute for Women's Health and Leadership funds this four-year scholarship for African American, Latina or Native American women who demonstrate financial need, leadership, academic excellence and potential contribution as a physician and are accepted to DUCOM.
