The National Black Nurses Association offers a variety of annual scholarships to African American women, including the NBNA Board of Directors Scholarship, the Dr. Lauranne Sams Scholarship and the Nursing Spectrum Scholarship. Although the specific award amount varies by scholarship, NBNA scholarship awards generally range from $500 to $2,000. In order to be eligible, a student must be enrolled in a nursing program at the time of application and must be a member of NBNA. In addition to letters of recommendation and an official transcript, applicants also must submit a two-page essay that describes their involvement in extracurricular and community activities and explains how they can change their community as a licensed nurse. The National American Arab Nurses Association offers annual scholarships to Arab-American women pursuing degrees in the field of nursing. These scholarships are awarded in amounts that range from $500 to $1,000. In order to be eligible, a student must be a student member of the NAANA, must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States and must have a grade point average of 3.5 or above. The American Association of University Women provides scholarships to minority women pursuing degrees in areas of study related to medicine through the AAUW Selected Professions Fellowship Program. This program provides annual stipends that range from $5,000 to $12,000. These fellowships are only available to students enrolled at the graduate level. According to the AAUW website, Selected Professions Fellowships in the field of medicine have been open only to women of minority ethnic status since 1991.
