Since 1978, the Janette Rankin Foundation Women's Scholarship Fund has awarded scholarships or grants to women in the United States. To be eligible, women must be at least 35, United States citizens and be accepted to or enrolled in a regionally or ACICS-accredited school pursuing a technical or vocational education, associate degree or a first bachelor's degree. Applicants must also meet financial requirements, based on the size and net income of their household. The foundation considers each applicant's goals, plans for reaching goals, past challenges and financial resources.

The AARP Foundation awards scholarships to women 40 or older pursuing new job skills or a higher education. To apply, women must be at least 40 by the application deadline, U.S. citizens with limited financial resources and enrolled in an accredited school or technical program in the United States. The program awards more than 100 grants and scholarships, ranging from $500 to $5,000. Both full time and part time undergraduate students may apply.
Preference goes to women who are re-entering the workforce after a prolonged absence or underemployed or rearing a child, such as a grandchild, belonging to another family member. Applicants must give their educational and work histories and answer short essay questions. Those interested in applying must submit an application online and may reapply for scholarships if they are eligible.

According to the Cornell University Graduate School Fellowship Database, which lists educational grants and scholarships awarded by sources other than Cornell University, The National League of American Pen Women (NLAPW) awards scholarships on a biannual basis to women over 35 whose talents are in the arts, letters or music. To apply, women must furnish a letter that states their age and background and the creative purpose the grant is for. Students in any field may apply but must demonstrate talent in the arts, creative writing or music. Past or present NLAPW members are not eligible to apply. The organization awards $1,000 grants in even-numbered years, one each in art, letters and music. For more information, interested women should send a self-addressed stamped envelope after Aug. 1.
