Scholarships for Women Over 30 to Become an LPN

Many nontraditional students have difficulty finding scholarships because the majority of scholarships are awarded to traditional students who do not take time off between high school and college. Therefore, a women over 30 looking for scholarships to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN) should be looking not only for scholarships aimed at LPN degrees, but also for scholarships that are specifically for women who are older than 30.
  1. Medical Associates LPN Tuition Reimbursement Program

    • The Medical Associates Clinic in Dubuque, Iowa, provides financial assistance to women pursuing LPN certifications who are hired at the Medical Associates Clinic through their LPN Tuition Reimbursement Program. Licensed Practical Nurses who are hired by Medical Associates are eligible to have all of their tuition costs reimbursed at the rate of $7,000 per year. In order to be eligible, a hired LPN must apply at least three months prior to graduating from her LPN program, must interview and receive an offer of employment at Medical Associates, and must successfully pass her board certification within four months of being hired.     NBNA Scholarships

    • Women over 30 who are pursuing a career as an LPN and are of African-American origin will find many available scholarships through the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA). Award amounts range from $500 to $2,000. Available scholarships include the Rita E. Miller Scholarship, the Martha A. Dawson Genesis Scholarship, and the Martha R. Dudley LVN/LPN Scholarship. In order to be eligible for these awards, a student must be a member of the NBNA, must already be enrolled in a program of study leading to LVN certification, and must have at least one year remaining in her program of study. The annual deadline for application is April 15. Interested students should visit the NBNA website to download an application.

    Royal Neighbors of America New Horizons Scholarships

    • Royal Neighbors of America makes scholarship money available to nontraditional students through its New Horizons Scholarship. Every year, the organization awards ten scholarships of up to $5,000 to women who are aged 35 and over. These are one-time awards, and are not renewable. In addition, Royal Neighbors awards one New Horizons Leader Scholarship every year that is renewable, and provides financial assistance of $5,000 a year for up to four years. Interested students should visit the Royal Neighbors website to submit an online application. The yearly application deadline falls on April 1.
