The TOEFL Test evaluates reading, listening, speaking and writing skills comparable to the skills necessary in the average college classroom. The entire test is given in one day and is administered 30 to 40 times a year in 165 countries. The test is available in a paper or computer format, and is recognized by over 7,500 universities, agencies and other institutions all over the world.
Vocabulary testing is part of the TOEFL structure section of the test. This section tests grammar, vocabulary and standard English usage. The vocabulary used is academic in nature and terms cover the arts, literature, culture, science and history. The structure section utilizes sentence completion and correction to evaluate English skill levels.
There are a variety of preparation materials available for TOEFL test candidates, some of which are available for free online. Actual questions used in previous tests are also available. Additionally, bookstores and libraries offer a variety of books, workbooks and flashcards to help prepare test candidates.
