How to Survive the DAT

The Dental Admissions Test (DAT) is a standardized test that gauges the potential success of a dental school candidate, and compares applicants. Doing well, on the six-section test makes the difference in being accepted to dental college. These suggestions can help anyone survive the DAT.

Instructions

    • 1

Start early in your undergraduate career making the grades. Strive for at least a 3.46 overall GPA and a 3.35 GPA in the sciences to be a viable candidate at one of 55 dental schools in the United States.

    • 2

Consider DAT study materials sold by the American Dental Association. Enhance the likelihood of increased scores on the perception portion of the test after working with these study aids.

    • 3

Use MCAT study guides to bone up in the areas of biology, chemistry and organic chemistry. Borrow these guides from students who have taken the MCAT and finished with the study books.

    • 4

Think about taking a Test Prep course. Choose a classroom course, online course, small group course or private tutoring.

    • 5

Review the Central admission Testing Program 2007 Examinee Guide. Submit your application for the exam, $175 exam fee, and school codes of dental colleges where you'd like the results sent. (See Resources).

    • 6

Adopt an exam study schedule in the 90 days prior to the exam. Create a schedule to devote time through the week to review each area of study.

    • 7

Discipline the body's internal clock. Go to bed at a reasonable hour in the week or two prior to the exam. Be ready to face the exam bright and early on test day.
