Keep your PNCA portfolio organized into specific categories. The staff at PNCA will be looking for creative and talented young artists who also have an eye for being hired in the future.
Demonstrate an ability to document your basic portfolio digitally, showing that you are able to tailor it for other school projects or the needs of potential future employers. Be sure to include past projects not in your PNCA portfolio. This digitized journal will also show that you are aware of your evolving growth as an artist and a willingness to continually learn and develop new skills.
Attract a crowd with your PNCA portfolio. Although you'll want to follow the established college regulations, make your portfolio appealing to other prospective students as well. Use vibrant colors in some of your work. One idea is to use a graffitti background for an edgy urban feel. Consider venturing out of your area of focus and including a sculpture. Make sure it's some of your better work and allow yourself plenty of time ahead of portfolio day for new creations.
Include some pieces from outside of your major area of concentration. PNCA will be looking for students who have a wide array of interests. Provide photos, pencil drawings, ad copy or an abstract piece of art. Try including some version of a self-portrait, possibly even a slightly humorous one. Don't worry if some of your diverse portfolio is not necessarily your forte. Representatives from PNCA are simply looking to see that you're not only proud of what you're good at, but also that you're are open to new possibilities.
