LPN Testing

Graduates of practical nursing programs are required to take and pass a licensing exam called the NCLEX-PN before they can legally practice as a licensed practical nurse, or licensed vocational nurse.
  1. The NCLEX-PN

    • The NCLEX-PN exam is designed to test minimum competency in the administration of nursing care.

    Exam Fees

    • As of 2010, the exam requires a $200 nonrefundable fee, which is separate from the costs of applying for exam eligibility from your state's board of nursing.

    Question Content

    • The NCLEX-PN generally places a lot of emphasis on the prospective nurse's critical-thinking skills and ability to prioritize.

    Scheduling the Exam

    • Exam registration and scheduling can be completed through NCS Pearson online or through the mail. Applicants are sent an authorization to test (ATT) after their registration fee and board notification of eligibility are received by NCS Pearson.

    Tips

    • You must test before the eligibility expiration date listed on the ATT. If you do not, you will need to pay the exam registration fees again.
