According to its official website, The National Fire Protection Association was established in 1896 to create and promote standards, research methods and training programs that will "reduce the worldwide burden of fire." The NFPA disseminates more than 300 consensus codes and has more than 75,000 members worldwide.
The NFPA 1081 includes information related to several areas of industrial fire fighting, providing certification for advanced exterior level, interior structural level and fire brigade leader. The standards build upon the NFPA 600: Industrial Fire Brigades course, which was produced in 2005.
The Emergency Services Training Institute in Texas states that the NFPA 1081 provides training in several key disciplines related to industrial fire fighting. Some of these include fire ground leadership, master stream applications, firefighter safety and the chemistry of fire.
