How to Submit NCLEX Questions

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is responsible for creating and administering the NCLEX exam to license new nurses, both the NCLEX-PN for the licensed practical nurse and the NCLEX-RN for the registered nurse. The council recruits experienced, licensed nurses to serve as volunteers each year to both write exam questions and to review new questions. Both registered nurses and licensed practical nurses may write questions for the NCLEX-PN, while nurses with a master's degree or higher write questions for the NCLEX-RN.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain the necessary experience: only nurses that have a minimum of two years of experience may write or review NCLEX questions. To write questions for the NCLEX-RN, the nurse also needs experience teaching undergraduate student nurses in clinical skills.

    • 2

Apply online for consideration at the NCSBN website (see Resources). The online form is simple and only takes a few minutes. The application asks for licensure information and employment experience, as well as the areas of interest in nursing.

    • 3

Wait to hear from the NCSBN. Applications are kept on file for two years from the date of submission.

    • 4

Travel to Chicago. When selected for a panel, travel, hotel and food expenses will be provided. A nurse can be selected multiple times during the two-year period her application is on file. Travel expenses are paid each time, and each panel lasts for three to five days.
