Invest in study guides for the test. The study guides will give you a good overview of what the tesst are going to look like. Each content area has a different focus such as math or reading comprehension. Practice each section. Find out if you have any weak areas and fine tune your focus to those topics. Contact your recruiter to possibly find additional study and practice materials if needed.
The night before your test, get the materials needed for the test in order. This will include pencils, test forms, calculators and your identification. This will avoid additional stress from rushing to find these items on the day of the test. Also try to get a good night's rest of at least eight hours. Eat high protein items for breakfast. Avoid drinking lots of fluids since you will not be able to go the restroom during testing.
The ASVAB is a multiple choice test. Try to eliminate possibilities on questions where you're uncertain of the answer. If you can eliminate two options, you will have a 50 percent chance of being correct. Pace yourself so that you have a chance to read and answer all questions on the test prior to the time expiring. Do not waste all your time on one or two questions. Move on to other questions and come back to the difficult questions as time allows.
It is important that you answer all questions on the test. If you are unsure on an answer to a question it is better to guess than to have no answer at all. If you find you are running out of time and have not gotten to all the questions it is still better to place an answer on the answer sheet even if you have not read the question. You have a 25 percent chance of getting the answer correct with a blind guess.
When marking an answer verify the answer placement matches the question's number. Avoid erasing answers and making additional marks on the answer sheet. Only erase an answer if you know the answer you currently have marked is incorrect. If you are undecided between two answers, leave the initial answer on the form. Additional markings may cause an answer to be marked incorrect when you had the correct answer on the sheet.
