Review the Test Guide of general examination information for the Mathematics CSET to familiarize yourself with the basic structure of the test. As of February 2011, the main domains or topics covered in the Math CSET are algebra, number theory, geometry, probability and statics, calculus and the history of mathematics. The Test Guide also features a list of resources for candidates to review for exam preparation.
Print a copy of the Mathematics Subject Matter Requirements from the CSET website. This list contains a detailed breakdown of each problem type covered in the six specified domains of the exam.
Review each domain to ensure you know how to complete a sample problem of each type listed. Consult the recommended resources listed at the end of each section if you are not completely confident in your ability to explain and solve problems related to all domains of the exam.
Answer sample questions. The CSET website has sample questions, responses and scoring information available for each subset of the mathematics exam.
Process your sample questions and calculate your score to see if you passed. Assess the responses you did not answer correctly and determine the reason for your mistake. If you missed the question because you did not fully understand the math problem, review your resource books for clarification.
Arrive early at your test center on your testing date. Bring an approved graphing calculator for use on Mathematics Subtest II: Geometry; Probability and Statistics. Stay focused on your test paper after the exam begins.
