How to Pass the ASVAB Test With Flash Cards

Use flash cards as a study aid to help you pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, a standardized test the military uses to determine the extent to which people who enlist for the military are qualified to do so. The ASVAB is adaptive in nature, so no pass or fail threshold exists. Rather, your goal should be to answer as many questions as possible correctly in all subject areas of the test to best highlight your abilities and strengths.

Instructions

    • 1

Familiarize yourself with the key skill areas the test measures, which are "Arithmetic Reasoning," "Mathematics Knowledge," "Word Knowledge" and "Paragraph Comprehension." Note that the Arithmetic Reasoning and Paragraph Comprehension sections, which test your ability to make sense of complicated math problems and paragraphs, rely on core concepts from the Mathematics Knowledge and Word Knowledge sections, which test key arithmetic and vocabulary skills. ASVAB includes a detailed run-down of all sections on its website.

    • 2

Work alone or in a group to develop questions appropriate for flash cards in a specific skill area. For example, you might use words you study for the Word Knowledge portion of the test in paragraphs and then list four potential sentence interpretations on a card and place it in the Paragraph Comprehension skills group.

    • 3

Study each skill area at a set time and with a specific set of flash cards. ASVAB's website includes a sample schedule, which provides easy-to-follow guidelines if you don't feel like creating your own schedule.
